The opposition Leadership Movement (LM) has leveled accusations against the government, alleging a preference for foreign investors over Zambian citizens in land administration affairs. Party Secretary-General Jairos Ngoma, speaking at a recent media briefing, expressed concerns over what he perceives as a lack of consideration for the interests of Zambians by the authorities.

Mr. Ngoma highlighted specific incidents to support the party’s claims, including the recent eviction of marketers at Munyaule market to accommodate a lease granted to a foreign investor. Additionally, he referenced the allocation of 120,000 hectares of land to a foreign investor in the Kanyerere area of Mpika District, Muchinga Province.

Further criticism was directed at the government’s alleged underutilisation of natural resources, particularly minerals, which Mr. Ngoma argued has created opportunities for criminal exploitation. He questioned the rationale behind surrendering land and mineral resources when other nations are fiercely safeguarding similar assets.

The LM’s accusations underscore growing concerns regarding the equitable distribution and management of resources, with calls for greater transparency and accountability in government decision-making processes concerning land and natural resource allocation.
