Martin Mulenga, an environmental expert, has underscored the importance of commercialising beekeeping, citing its significant contributions to both the economy and ecological preservation.

In an interview, Mr. Mulenga emphasised that beekeeping, when commercialised, can become a lucrative business venture that not only boosts the economy but also creates employment opportunities and generates income for beekeepers and related industries.

Highlighting the role of commercial beekeeping in biodiversity conservation, Mr. Mulenga noted that managed hives and suitable habitats provided by beekeepers can contribute to the conservation of bee populations and other pollinators. Healthy bee populations are essential for pollination, thereby maintaining the overall health of ecosystems.

Mr. Mulenga further observed that commercial beekeeping plays a crucial role in food security by supporting the production of various crops through pollination services. He stressed that without adequate pollination, the yields and quality of many crops would decline, adversely impacting food supplies, particularly in rural communities.
