A Kitwe-based cleric, Apostle Patrick Chibeshi, has condemned the arrest of five teachers at Senanga Day Secondary School in Mongu over an alleged assault on a pupil.
The Zambia Police Service confirmed that the teachers were arrested and charged with assault on a child following an incident reported on 19 March, 2026. The alleged assault, which occurred on 16 March, involved a 15-year-old pupil who reportedly sustained multiple injuries.
Police said the suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court.
Meanwhile, Apostle Chibeshi said teachers play a critical parental role in shaping learners’ behaviour and character. He emphasised the importance of discipline in schools and urged that teachers be supported in maintaining order.
He, however, called for a balanced approach that protects children’s rights while preserving teachers’ authority, cautioning against weakening discipline standards in the education system.
