Government says it is cognizant of the significance of the mining sector and has reassured citizens that it is working hard to resolve all the outstanding issues at all mines in the country.
Speaking during the ceremonial opening of the 3rd session of the 13th National Assembly, President Hakainde Hichilema said to ensure an attractive mining sector for increased investment and output, the UPND administration is undertaking regulatory and structural reforms that will contribute to the increase and diversification of mineral production in the country.
He adds that government is establishing a Minerals Regulatory Commission to superintend over the sector, promote investments and ensure the country gets maximum benefit from its mineral resources.
President Hichilema says that to support investments and diversification in exploration, mining and processing of minerals, government will embark on a national geological mapping exercise of the country to get accurate data on the country’s mineral resource endowment.
And government has committed to is formalising artisanal and small-scale mining to increase participation of citizens in the mining sector with the Head of State urging all citizens involved in small-scale mining to formalise their businesses and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
President Hichilema’s address was themed, “Building on the Socio-Economic Gains for Improved Livelihoods and a Better Zambia.”
