In a statement issued today, Golden Party of Zambia (GPZ) President Jackson Silavwe, a governance stakeholder who previously opposed the removal of the main police checkpoints around the country, has expressed his approval of the government’s decision to reinstate them.
Mr. Silavwe, however, raises pertinent questions demanding answers from the authorities. He has first questioned the initial decision to remove the main police checkpoints and seeks clarification on the reasons behind this move.
He also seeks information on who advised President Hakainde Hichilema to issue the order for the removal of the main police checkpoints and further delves to find out if there is existence of any intelligence report that supported the removal of the main checkpoints.
Mr. Silavwe states that the lack of concrete answers to these questions leaves the public with only speculative explanations, possibly suggesting a deliberate move by authorities to facilitate illicit activities. He contends that the removal of the security checkpoints was a breach in national security, and the nation may only fully comprehend the consequences of this period in the future.
