A Political Analyst says it will be strange to force former President Edgar Lungu to surrender his civil and political liberties in the name of maintaining his status as a Statesman.

On Saturday, 23rd September, the Zambia Police Service said it had noted with concern the unlawful assembly and political activism that was conducted by Patriotic Front cadres on the material date when the Former President Edgar Lungu was conducting his morning jogging routine.

Police warned the Patriotic Front cadres to notify them of any public gatherings or demonstrations, including political events, as established by law, stating that failure to do so amounts to a breach of the law.

The former Head of State has also recently become the topic of contention after some United Party for National Development (UPND) members challenged him to state whether he is politically active while he is still under government payroll.

Reacting to this development, Political Analyst Dr. Alex Ngoma points out that Zambians should understand that when a person retires as a president it does not mean that he surrenders his civil and political liberties.

Dr. Ngoma tells Flava News that the UPND and the Zambian citizens should only be concerned when the former president begins to hold public rallies, and not his morning jogging routine or attending any church service.
