Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba has affirmed Zambia’s commitment to supporting and implementing measures to prevent conflict worldwide in accordance with the United Nations mandate. Speaking at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) held at UN Headquarters in New York, Mr. Musamba underscored the interconnectedness of sustainable development and peace.
“There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development,” he stated. “Therefore, the role of the police must be supported in all aspects to create a favourable environment for them to establish frameworks and pillars of rule of law for the safety of people and property.”
Highlighting the urgency of conflict prevention, Mr. Musamba noted the resurgence of violent conflicts globally and the rise in armed conflicts.
The Summit, themed “The Role of UN Police in Preventing Conflict and Violence and Sustaining Peace,” serves as the largest global platform for senior police leaders to discuss enhancing global security and addressing cross-border threats through the collaborative efforts of national UN policing.
