Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mazoka Chikote has revealed that the country’s annual fish production has increased from 63, 418 metric tonnes in 2021 to 75, 647 metric tonnes in 2022 due to government interventions.

Mr. Chikote has since called upon farmers in the country to concentrate on fish farming and conserve the fish in the natural water bodies.

He adds that farmers should build up on their fish farming skills as a way for fish production to further increase in the country.

And aquaculture firm Clipper Line Limited Chief Executive Officer Dan Walker has appealed to government to monitor fish imports as they pose a serious threat to local fish producers.

Mr. Walker says the Zambian fish farming industry is growing as many citizens are being empowered which has resulted in an increased rate of fish production.

He adds that if fish imports are not monitored, local fish producers might suffer losses due to unhealthy competition on the market.
