The Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) has emphasised on the need for sustainable and healthy modes of transport in order to ensure that road safety is promoted.

ZRST Communications Officer Sante Chikonde says Government holds a pivotal role in fostering safer transportation systems, and one key strategy lies in increasing investments in public transport and other sustainable modes of transport.

He notes that by enhancing public transportation networks, particularly through initiatives such as improved bus systems, all stakeholders can actively promote road safety and contribute to public health.

Mr. Chikonde observes that these efforts lead to a reduction in private vehicle usage, thereby minimising traffic congestion, accidents, and injuries, stating that to ensure the effectiveness of these endeavours, it is vital to implement robust safety measures within public transport systems,

He has further called for collaboration between transport authorities, urban planners, and public health agencies in achieving comprehensive planning.

Mr. Chikonde says only collective efforts can leverage expertise and resources to develop sustainable transportation solutions that prioritise road safety and improve overall community well-being.
