The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) on the Copperbelt has welcomed the successful conclusion of salary negotiations between Government and Public Service Unions.

Copperbelt Provincial Executive Member Samuel Kasanyinga told Flava News that the outcome of the negotiations represents a positive step for public service employees, particularly those on lower salary scales.

Mr. Kasanyinga congratulated union leaders, led by team leader Joy Beene, for what he described as a job well done. He said the agreed K700 salary increment translates to a 14.6 percent increase for lower-paid workers, and is intended to narrow the wage gap between higher-earning employees and those at the bottom of the pay structure.

He added that the salary adjustment will include back pay, which he said will provide much-needed relief to public service workers amid rising living costs.

Government and Public Service Unions concluded the negotiations on 5 February 2026, agreeing to improved salaries and selected conditions of service for public service employees, with effect from 1 January 2026.

Under the agreement, monthly basic salaries will increase by K700 across the board, while the meal allowance has been revised from K150 to K175. Other conditions of service will continue to be paid at existing rates.

Government and the unions have further agreed to continue engaging on outstanding administrative matters related to conditions of service following the conclusion of the negotiations.
