Centre for Media Rights Watch and Protection of Journalists in Zambia has described calls to have the Constitutional Court revisit former President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility case an abuse of the court and the judiciary at large.
Executive Director Mwiya Mukumbuta notes with concern that some sections of society are calling on the constitutional court to revisit its judgement concerning the eligibility of the former Head of state even though it already made a ruling.
Mr. Mukumbuta adds that it must be noted that the con-court is a court of last resort on matters of the constitution hence calling it to revisit its previous decision is an attempt to bring down the integrity of the con-court and the judges who preside over it.
He further adds that society must respect decisions of the courts whether they have met the people’s interests or not as by doing so they are going to strengthen the country’s democracy and good governance.
