Stakeholders have welcomed the framework developed by the Zambia Environmental Agency (ZEMA), the Curriculum Development Centre and the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment aimed at mainstreaming Environmental Education in the school curriculum.
An Educationist Professor Innocent Sakamona has welcomed the move, stating that pupils acquire knowledge better at a tender age when they are in primary school and this will build capacity for secondary and tertiary levels.
Professor Sakamona is of the view that environmental education in the school curriculum should be tailored according to levels of understanding.
And Care for Nature Zambia Executive Director Nsama Musonda Kearns tells Flava News that mainstreaming environmental education in the school curriculum is a good move, adding that her organisation has been calling for this for a long time.
Ms. Kearns says based on the 2013 Zambian education curriculum studies, it was recognised that environmental education and climate change are some of the cross-cutting issues that should be incorporated.
