Government has launched the Zambia National Oxygen Strategic Plan for 2022 – 2026 and an Oxygen Pressure Swing Absorption plant for Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH).
The project is being funded by the Sweedish Government and the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), at a total cost of over $1.6 billion.
Speaking during the launch, Minister of Health Syvia Masebo said Zambia faces immense challenges in the provision of safe and reliable access to medical oxygen, which was exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic
Ms. Masebo says this presents a pivotal opportunity for the country to prioritise investment in the medical oxygen system through the development and implementation of the National Medical Oxygen Strategic Plan.
The Health Minister said the plan describes Zambia’s health systems’ current state and ability to provide safe and reliable access to medical oxygen.
