Kitwe Mayor Mpasa Mwaya has called for participation of citizens and social groups in the implementation of decentralization and local development.
Speaking during the Commemoration of the Africa Day of Decentralization, Ms Mwaya says the day offers an opportunity to discuss challenges the state is facing in the implementation of devolution and local development and recognizes the achievements made.
Ms. Mwaya says the commemoration is has been preceded by the local government week and that councils are mandated to showcase business opportunities to potential developers and investors with respective municipalities.
She reviews that in 2013, central government re-launched the decentralization policy and since then, government has shown remarkable commitment and political will to implement the decentralization reforms.
Ms. Mwaya further says decentralization reforms emphasize on community participation in attainment and delivery of quality service.
