Kamfinsa Constituency Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe has called on fellow MPs to support the reintroduction of the Access to Information Bill to Parliament.
Mr. Kang’ombe states that in 2002, the ATI Bill was withdrawn from parliament to allow for consultation and he states that it is impractical for the consultation process to continue even after 21 years when there is national consensus that Zambians need to have an access to information role.
The law marker notes that Zambians can only have access to information if there is enough legislation that allows any Zambian to access information from both public and private offices.
Mr. Kang’ombe, who is also a member on the Parliamentary Committee for Media and ICT, is of the view that the only way to empower the Zambian people with adequate information which will help them make informed decisions is by enacting the Access to Information Bill into law.
