The Socialist Party in Southern Province has demanded that reforms be made to the Zambia Police Service.
Socialist Party Southern Provincial Secretary Aggephrey Brill tells Flava News that the charges slammed against Dr. Fred M’membe in the Serenje fracas are an attempt to criminalise him and wake up call for all Zambians to demand for the police service to be reformed and restructured in its entirety.
Mr. Brill says the current police system is hostile against the citizens it must protect and chooses to brutalise and traumatise them instead, especially those in the opposition political parties.
He states that it is clear that the Zambian Police Service is a politically compromised department of government and is operating like a hunting dog released by the executive and the ruling party but remains toothless when dealing with suspects from the ruling party.
