Mental health expert Kelvin Kulilishka has emphasised that opening up to qualified professionals is the first and most critical step toward healing, and has called on the media to intensify the dissemination of mental health information to promote early intervention.

In an interview with Flava News, Mr. Kulilishka said increased awareness and access to accurate information on mental health issues would empower individuals to make informed decisions and avoid actions that, in many cases, have led to severe and life-altering consequences.

He explained that self-awareness plays a central role in mental well-being, noting that many people continue to suffer in silence due to limited understanding of mental health conditions and available support systems.

Mr. Kulilishka further stressed that self-realisation and acceptance are essential in managing mental health challenges. He said acknowledging the existence of a problem and recognising the need for professional help marks the beginning of progress and meaningful change.

He urged stakeholders, particularly the media, to treat mental health as a public priority by ensuring consistent, responsible, and stigma-free coverage that encourages individuals to seek professional support at an early stage.
