A Luanshya-based senior citizen, Chitondo Champo, has urged the media to remain impartial in the execution of their duties by reporting factual information and avoiding partisan coverage.

Speaking to Flava News, Mr. Champo said the media plays a critical role as the Fourth Estate and should therefore amplify the voices, views, and concerns of ordinary citizens rather than focusing predominantly on political actors.

He observed that excessive political coverage often sidelines the real social and economic challenges affecting communities, adding that the media has a responsibility to bring such issues to the forefront of national discourse.

Mr. Champo further challenged journalists to prioritise people-centred reporting by highlighting matters that directly impact citizens’ daily lives, including livelihoods, service delivery, and economic hardships.

He also called on media houses to strengthen accountability by providing platforms where leaders can engage directly with citizens through live radio and television programmes. Mr. Champo said such interactions would help the electorate make informed decisions when choosing leaders to vote for.
