Community Action Against Corruption has appealed to the Zambian Police to desist from the habit of arresting and detaining citizens in undisclosed locations without allowing them to communicate to their relatives and friends in time.

CAAC Executive Director Brightone Tembo has observed with sadness the growing trend by the police to take Opposition Political leaders for interviews to undisclosed locations and detaining them after interviewing them.

Mr. Tembo notes that the behaviour by the Zambia Police Service is an abrogation of the rights of the suspects who deserve visitation and supply of necessities like food and water provided by their visitors, while in police custody.

He has further called on the Human Rights Commission to state their position on the matter, stating that the Police have now assumed the role of psychologically punishing selected detainees, forgetting that their role is just to arrest and hand over suspects to the courts for punishment.
