The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has expressed concern over the behaviour and conduct of the Director Spokesperson at the Ministry of Information and Media Thabo Kawana where he has been reportedly storming media institutions during live programmes in the name of offering checks and balances to the panelists.
CCZ General Secretary Fr. Emmanuel Chikoya tells Flava News that it is regrettable that such conduct is coming from a high ranked civil servant who should be in the forefront of upholding good media ethics and promoting media freedoms and independence.
Fr. Chikoya states that Mr. Kawana or any other person who feels aggrieved by the conduct of media houses that do not seem to have taken a balanced approach has the right to engage relevant authorities such as the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) and lodge their complaints there.
He states that the aggrieved can also utilise social media platforms or phone in on a live programme to respond or make clarifications.
Fr. Chikoya has called for order to ensure that the situation does not escalate and he has further called on the media to remain steadfast and stand against all forms of media intimidation and violations.
