Environmental expert Martin Mulenga has underscored the importance of waste-to-wealth initiatives that transform waste materials into recycled and value-added products.
Speaking to Flava News, Mr. Mulenga said his organisation, Green Cosmos, is conducting training and awareness programmes in school clubs to promote sustainable environmental practices among young people.
He noted that solid waste is often dismissed as mere garbage, yet it holds significant economic potential if properly managed and recycled.
Mr. Mulenga explained that Green Cosmos is collaborating with various partners to help communities generate income through structured recycling initiatives.
He further called for enhanced stakeholder collaboration, including local authorities and civil society organisations, stressing that waste management cannot be handled by a single institution.
Instead, he advocated for a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to achieve sustainable environmental protection while unlocking economic opportunities from waste.
