A concerned Kitwe resident has urged citizens to take responsibility for the type of leadership they elect, arguing that the culture of expecting handouts from politicians has contributed to current governance challenges.

Speaking to Flava News, the resident said many voters celebrate candidates who distribute money during campaigns without questioning the source of the funds or possible obligations attached.

He noted that communities such as Kitwe are grappling with poor road networks and difficult living conditions, adding that voters must demand credible development plans rather than short-term benefits.

The resident argued that when voters prioritise immediate handouts, some politicians may focus on recovering campaign expenses once elected instead of delivering meaningful development.

He has since called on citizens to reject vote-buying and shift toward accountability-driven leadership.
