The Leadership Movement has advised government to desist from rewarding its associates with opportunities and huge contracts at the expense of the safety and health of the Zambian people.

Party President Richard Silumbe states that he is disappointed that the new dawn government has continued to ride on the Patriotic Front trajectory of forgetting the interests of the Zambian people.

Mr. Silumbe points out that governments are expected to put the interests of the people above any other, adding that this is not the case with the previous and the current governments whose interests seem to be vested in their associates.

He has since advised the new dawn administration to go back to its drawing board and ensure that it puts the interests of the Zambian people first.

Dr. Silumbe has named the mining sector as one sector that is being neglected at the expense of the Zambian people’s interests and he has alleged that the continuous awarding of large contracts to companies with questionable backgrounds is worrying.

He says if the new dawn government is a listening government, it must cancel the license given to Anglo American Corporation for large scale mining exploration in Mwinilunga District as the company has a bad record with the country and its history is questionable.

Last month it was reported that Anglo American Corporation and two other large-scale mining firms are exploring for copper and other minerals in Mwinilunga District in North-Western Province.

Mwinilunga District Commissioner Harrison Kamuna revealed that Anglo American Corporation, Rio Tinto and Zamsort companies have been doing mineral exploration works in the district.
