Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Chairperson Grace Sinkamba has noted that the available Zambian labour laws have changed progressively over the years in trying to create a conducive environment for workers, especially the women folk.

Ms. Sinkamba says in the recent past, the government has made strides towards employing more citizens in the civil service through the recruitment of over 30, 000 teachers and over 11, 000 health workers as well as Agricultural Extension Officers among other recruitments.

She says the provisions on minimum wage requirement and increasing the tax threshold for low-income earners add to the progressive policies that have continued to make life more bearable for employees.

NGOCC has since urged government to devise mechanisms that will see Zambia attain its Vision 2030 for the country’s labour force and creating a conducive environment for the women of Zambia to enable them contribute meaningfully to development by addressing the many bottlenecks that impede them from competing fairly with men.
