About 14 pupils at Manyinga District’s Kashinakzhi Day Secondary School in North Western Province are reported to have fallen pregnant.
The cases are reported to have happened in the first term of the school calendar and have been confirmed by Kashinakizhi Ward Councillor Nelco Bulaya.
Mr. Bulaya revealed that the girls are believed to be in Grade eight with the youngest being 14 years old and he says it is disappointing that the young girls could fall pregnant especially that they are from one school.
The Civic Leader has since appealed to the relevant authorities to take serious measures to curb the vice.
And Manyinga District Education Board Secretary Patrick Poho says his office received the information with shock and described the development as a setback in the quest to empower girl children with education.
He however states that the issue needs to be investigated further to ascertain the actual situation on the ground.
