Social and Civil Rights Activist Apostle Patrick Chibeshi says Zambia’s largely youthful population is being affected by inadequate civic education, limiting understanding of key economic and policy issues.
Speaking to Flava News, Apostle Chibeshi said many citizens struggle to relate macroeconomic terms such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), single-digit inflation, and currency appreciation to their daily realities.
He observed that communities are more concerned about access to clean water, sanitation, food security, and affordable commodities. He noted that despite independence in 1964, some urban settlements still face inadequate infrastructure and poor living conditions.
Apostle Chibeshi said the cost of living remains a pressing issue, pointing out that a 25kg bag of mealie meal ranges between K250 and K400 in some areas. He argued that reported exchange rate gains and single-digit inflation figures do not resonate with families struggling to meet basic needs.
