Kalulushi Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament Chikabala Kaleta says promoting arts among young people is a strategic initiative aimed at uplifting and empowering youth, particularly in mining-based communities such as Chambishi.
Speaking at a local arts awards event, Mr. Kaleta said the initiative is designed to encourage young people already involved in the creative sector while providing opportunities for unemployed youths.
He noted that although Chambishi is a mining township, many young people from surrounding communities are not being considered for employment in the mines.
Mr. Kaleta observed that Kalulushi, like many parts of Zambia, has a large youthful population facing limited job opportunities. He said investing in arts and skills development programmes offers a practical way of diversifying opportunities beyond the mining sector.
According to Mr. Kaleta, supporting youth-driven initiatives in the creative industry can strengthen livelihoods and create alternative employment pathways.
He emphasised that arts development can play a key role in economic empowerment and reducing unemployment among young people in Kalulushi and surrounding areas.
