The National Youth Chairperson of the Zambia Wake-up Party, Henry Musonda, has welcomed the decision by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to appeal the acquittal of Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai in a corruption case.
Mr. Musonda described the appeal as necessary to ensure justice is done and seen to be done, noting that corruption threatens Zambia’s democracy and economic growth.
However, he cautioned that the appeal process must not be weaponised for political purposes. He alleged perceptions of selective prosecution under the United Party for National Development administration.
He called on the ACC to demonstrate independence and professionalism while urging government to safeguard anti-corruption institutions from political interference.
