A group of charcoal traders from CMML area in Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Township took their grievances to Kitwe City Council, alleging forceful eviction from their trading site.

Emotionally, they pleaded for government intervention, stressing their sole reliance on this source of income. The traders received a notice to vacate the premises by unidentified land surveyors claiming it as private property.

With claims of conducting business on the land for an extended period, some traders argue it to be an ancestral site for charcoal trading. They propose purchasing the land to legitimise their operations, promising reimbursement to the purported owner.

Desperate for assistance, the traders appeal to the president, citing nowhere else to turn.
